You’ve made it to 30 weeks—welcome to the final stretch!
By now, your belly is big, your sleep might be trash, and you’re probably realizing just how real this whole “having a baby” thing is getting. But what exactly should you expect this week? And what do most pregnancy apps leave out?
Here’s the truth about what’s going on at 30 weeks pregnant—and how to prepare for what’s ahead.
At 30 weeks, your uterus is about 4 inches above your belly button, and baby is roughly 3 pounds and 16 inches long—about the size of a cabbage! But the real action? It’s happening behind the scenes.
You may be noticing:
Braxton Hicks contractions (practice contractions that are normal but can be annoying!)
Pelvic pressure or back pain (thank your growing uterus and loosening ligaments)
Shortness of breath, vivid dreams, or even tingly hands (hello, pregnancy carpal tunnel)
Your body is already starting to prep for labor—even if you don’t feel “ready” yet.
Most people focus on baby’s development—but did you know your brain is also changing?
Thanks to a process called maternal neuroplasticity, your brain is becoming more efficient and alert. That’s why:
You might feel extra sensitive
Your sleep becomes lighter
Your instincts start feeling stronger (even if you’re still doubting yourself!)
Support this shift by doing simple breathwork or movement daily—it doesn’t have to be fancy to be powerful.
Here’s what most apps won’t tell you:
Your baby is developing taste memory through the foods you eat now. Yep, amniotic fluid carries flavor, and studies show this impacts how babies breastfeed and try solids later.
Try rotating your meals and include healthy fats, hydrating fruits, and nutrient-rich foods like eggs, avocado, and salmon (hello, DHA!).
Also, baby is practicing breathing, sucking, and swallowing—skills they’ll need within minutes of being born.
Yes, decorating is fun—but week 30 is the ideal time to prep for what actually matters:
✔️ Understanding what labor feels like
✔️ Knowing how breastfeeding starts (and what to expect when it doesn’t go smoothly)
✔️ Building a postpartum plan that supports your recovery
